Qatar-Vietnam Relations


Both the State of Qatar and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam wish to develop the relations between the two countries and push them to higher levels, especially in the field of investment. This area is of special interest to the officials of both countries. All meetings between the Ambassador of Qatar and Vietnamese officials focused on strengthening relations and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam pays special attention to Qatari investors. This was evident in the meeting between the Ambassador of the State of Qatar and both the Minister of Planning and Investment and the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

In addition, there is special interest in the two countries to develop cooperation in the field of security after the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime entered into force, under which there will be cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the fields of security. There is also cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, since the State of Qatar offers scholarships to a number of Vietnamese students to study Arabic, and the two countries are working to strengthen cooperation in this field.

  • Diplomatic relations between the two countries began on 8 February 1993 at the ambassadorial level (non-resident ambassador).
  • The Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the State of Qatar began his work in March 2008.
  • The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Hanoi was opened on 25 January 2010. The first Qatari Resident Ambassador in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was appointed on 2011.
  • The total number of Vietnamese Community in Qatar is 1670, according to the latest statistics in July 2016.
  • The State of Qatar provided non-governmental development assistance of USD 821.000 to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 2009.
